Execution of J.W. Ledford Jr. On Hold
JACKSON, Ga. (WDEF)- The execution of a man convicted of killing a Murray County man is on hold, for now.
J.W. Ledford, Jr. was scheduled to be put to death tonight at a state prison in Jackson, Georgia.
The 45-year-old inmate was convicted of murder in the January 1992 stabbing death of Dr. Harry Johnston in Murray County.
Ledford’s lawyers are arguing he was only 20 and his brain wasn’t done developing when he killed Johnston.
According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, legal challenges by his attorneys were still pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.
That has apparently delayed the 7 p.m. execution time.
