Fatal Traffic Crash on Chamberlain Avenue

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Police Department has released information concerning a fatal traffic crash that occurred on January 27th.

Late that Sunday evening, CPD’s Traffic Division responded to 2300 North Chamberlain Avenue on reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Officers found that a Mercury Grand Marquis traveling east on Crutchfield Street had failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck a Honda Accord traveling south on North Chamberlain Avenue.

The driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis, John Atkins, 82, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Mr. Atkins succumbed to injuries on February 2nd.

Jessica Cox, 27, was the driver of the Honda Accord.

On February 8th, CPD’s Traffic Unit received notification from the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s office that Mr. Atkins’ death was a result from injuries sustained in this crash.
