Fight Flu TN Event held in Chattanooga

Hamilton County Health Dept. further encourages residents to receive flu shots

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Health Department held a free flu shot event Wednesday morning to combat rising flu numbers in Tennessee.

Department personnel gathered early at Orchard Knob Baptist Church to administer free flu shots to willing residents over the age of 18.

The department’s Maegan Kerr says receiving a shot is vital this year in helping prevent a “twindemic.”

“Most likely, we’re going to see those flu numbers rise and we have already been seeing a rise in those numbers,” Kerr said. “So that’s why we’re just really encouraging folks to be vaccinated. Our numbers were very low these past couple of years and we’re already seeing high numbers. We just can’t encourage folks enough to be vaccinated. That’s the number one way to protect yourself.”

The “Fight Flu TN” initiative is being run statewide to help fight against rising flu cases.

Kerr says you can get both your flu and COVID shots at health department clinics.
