Fire burns two businesses on Lee Highway

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – When Chattanooga firefighters got the the scene just after midnight, it was already too late to save most of the products inside.

The fire burned General Appliance Warehouse on top and Summitt Pianos and Organs on the lower level at the intersection of Lee Highway and Vance Road.

Flames were already shooting through the roof when they arrived.

And power lines quickly came down, whipping around lose, charged wires where the firefighters were trying to work.

It took them more than an hour to put it out with aerial hoses above and hand held hose crews going in from the ground.

Both businesses suffered heavy losses, but no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Servpro will be on the scene for the rest of the day cleaning up after the fire.
