Firefighter treated for heat exhaustion after battling blaze at vacant home on South Willow Street

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Dinner break got cut a little short for Chattanooga firefighters who work at Station 5 on South Willow Street.

People in three different cars stopped to report a fire down the street. Upon arrival, the firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire.

Captain David Thompson Jr. said it only took about 15 minutes to put out the fire.

Firefighters were told that no one was living in the house.

One firefighter was taken by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital for heat exhaustion.

He was expected to be treated and released.

Captain Thompson said the fire was mostly contained to the first floor, with moderate to heavy smoke and heat damage to the upstairs portion of the house.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
