Firefighters Battle Fire for Hours at Old Chattanooga Warehouse
An old mattress warehouse on South Holtzclaw Avenue caught on fire around two a-m Saturday morning. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a two story blaze.
Firefighters battled the fire for more than 4 hours. Crews had to use aerial operations to put the fire out. There were no injuries reported. But the fire department says that mutual aide was needed throughout the city.
Battalion Chief Chris Willmore says, “We actually had another fire going on at the same time. It came in shortly afterward. So, we really taxed the city’s resources and we called in mutual aide to provide coverage for us throughout the city.”
The fire department says that the building was in the process of being converted into condos. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
