UPDATE: Firefighters battling brush fire on Signal Mountain

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – As of 6pm, Hamilton County officials say that the brush fire on Signal Mountain off Roberts Mill Road has grown to 20 acres but the fire is under control.

Officials say gusty winds proved to be a struggle for firefighters.

According to officials, more than 50 firefighters, 13 Emergency Service agencies, and the Tennessee Forestry Division all worked together through the afternoon to contain the fire.

Hamilton County Officials say Roberts Mill Road will remain closed until further notice from the Tennessee Forestry Division.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – According to Hamilton County officials, multiple fire companies are battling a 5.5 acre brush fire on Roberts Mill Road on Signal Mountain.

Officials say no structures are in danger at the time of the press release.

Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services, Red Bank Fire Department and Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department are fighting the fire at the top of the mountain.

Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department and Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department are working at the bottom of the mountain.

Officials also say that the Tennessee Forestry Division is on scene with a helicopter, dropping water from above to hit areas that aren’t accessible to firefighter on the ground.

Signal Mountain Fire Department, Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and East Ridge Fire Department are covering all other emergency calls for the departments battling the brush fire.
