Flash Flooding in Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A fast moving thunderstorm has swamped several communities in southeast Tennessee this afternoon.

The storm submerged several roads in Pikeville around noon.

Highway 127 was cut off by flood waters.

The sheriff himself drove through a neighborhood, evacuating several families as the water began getting into homes.

Officials are also concerned about the old Rockfort bridge on Highway 127 that was submerged.

They fear the flood waters may make it unstable.

The waters also swamped C&A Auto Sales on 127, flooding out cars on the lot.

Officials say Old Hwy 28 North of town behind the old County House is impassable.

30 West by the funeral home and Buckshot Lane were also shutdown according to the Bledsoe County Rescue Squad.

But the water is now going down.

And no one has been hurt, as far as we know.
