Former Representative Bobby Wood dies
Tributes from fellow Republicans on his ability to work with Democrats
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Current lawmakers are paying tribute today to one of their mentors.
Former state lawmaker Bobby Wood passed away this morning at his home in Harrison after a long illness.
He was 87.
Wood served in the Tennesse legislature for 28 years before retiring in 2004.
He pushed TennCare benefits and Home schooling rules for the state in those years.
Wood was known as a longtime Republican in our area who could work with the Democratic majorities he faced through much of his career.
Lawmaker Greg Martin said today “Bobby was the essence of a gentleman and yet solid as oak when it came to his convictions.”
State Senator Bo Watson remembers his bi-partisanship.
“Rep. Wood was beloved and respected by legislators on both sides of the aisle. He served his district in Hamilton County and the State of Tennessee with the highest honor. He was committed to his faith, his family, and his community. He lived a life of public service. They just don’t make them like Bobby Wood anymore. He set a high standard. Our prayers are with the family and the Harrison community.”
