Fort Oglethorpe Officer-Involved Shooting

Update: Ft. Oglethorpe, GA (WDEF)- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fort Oglethorpe.

Just before 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, Fort Oglethorpe police responded to a shoplifting call at the Fort Oglethorpe WalMart on Battlefield Parkway.

A lookout was given for a blue Toyota Camry. The vehicle was quickly located and a traffic stop was imitated.

One suspect then fled the vehicle on foot; an officer chased after him.

Another suspect in the vehicle, attempted to leave the scene driving in the direction of that officer into a crowded roadway. A second officer then fired one shot. The vehicle was followed and two suspects were taken into custody. The third suspect was taken into custody near an apartment complex.

No one was injured during the incident.

The shoplifting case is under investigation by Ft. Oglethorpe Police.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. After complete, the investigation will be turned over to the Catoosa County District Attorney’s Office for judicial review.
