Four Finalists still vying for position of Cleveland City Manager

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Cleveland City Council members have completed their interviews, leaving four finalists seeking to become Cleveland’s next city manager.

Seth Sumner of Riceville, Tennessee and Joe Fivas of Matthews, North Carolina were interviewed Monday afternoon

Angie Carrier of Johnson City and Mark Reeter of Bristol were interviewed Tuesday afternoon.

Council members and Mayor Tom Rowland took turns questioning each candidate, spending an hour with each candidate.

Questions ranged from leadership style to budget and finance experience, in addition to inquiries into their views about the relationship between themselves as a city manager and elected officials.

The field of candidates was narrowed to five last month, with one of those candidate later withdrawing from consideration.

The council will meet again on June 16 at 3 p.m. to discuss the interviews.

Whoever is chosen to be the next city manager will succeed Janice Casteel who retired May 31.

Assistant City Manager Melinda Carroll is currently the interim city manager.
