Fox Mountain Fire Update

RISING FAWN, Georgia (WDEF) The forest fire on the Georgia and Alabama line near Rising Fawn continues to burn.

Georgia Forestry officials say the Fox Mountain fire has now burned 17,000 acres.

On Thursday, they say 40% of the fire is contained.

Today, the firefighers are setting as many fires as they are putting out.

The idea is to burn up the fuel around the fringes in controlled burns before the wildfire can reach it.

They expect they will loose several hundred more acres.

They figure they will be moping up this fire until they get some rain.

And that could be more than a week away.
