From The Archives: Hurricane Rita in 2005

(WDEF) – It was one of the top five hurricanes to ever hit the U.S.

It caused the largest evacuation in U.S. history.

But we’re not talking about Hurricane Katrina.

Rita came along just weeks after Katrina.

But since it hit along the unpopulated Louisiana and Texas coast, it didn’t have the same impact.

So to remind you about the double-shot the region was facing ten years ago, we give you two stories from 9/23-24 of 2005.

First, the CBS report the morning after Rita made landfall.

Then we visit some Katrina evacuees living in a Hixson hotel.

Rita was delaying their plans to go home.
