GBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Bartow County
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (WDEF) – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during the apprehension and arrest of a fugitive wanted for aggravated assault and parole violation.
GBI officials say the preliminary information shows Cartersville Police Officers and Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at 11 Parmenter Street in Cartersville to arrest 30-year-old Steven McQueen for a probation violation warrant and an aggravated assault warrant.
That was at around 6:20 p.m. Friday evening.
The aggravated assault warrant came after a Cartersville Police officer tried to serve a probation violation warrant and an aggravated assault warrant Thursday night.
McQueen reportedly pointed a gun at the officer and escaped arrest.
When officers and deputies arrived at the McQueen’s home Friday night, McQueen pointed a handgun at the officers and deputies after being told several times to put the gun down, and after being tased by an officer.
At this point a deputy and an officer fired at McQueen striking and killing him.
