GBI, Walker Co. Sheriff’s Office investigating infant death

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — The Walker County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are investigating an infant death that occurred in Chickamauga.

Walker County Sheriff’s Office and EMS were dispatched to the 100 block of Wayne Harris Drive, Chickamauga, Georgia on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 3:48 a.m. in regard to an unresponsive, not breathing, six-month-old male infant.

They say upon arrival, deputies determined the infant was deceased and the Walker County Coroner was notified.

Walker County detectives and a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent are conducting an investigation into the cause and manner of death, according to Walker County Sheriff, Steve Wilson.

No criminal charges have been made.

The infant will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Decatur, Georgia for an autopsy.
