Georgia authorities search for father in death of infant

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Gwinnett County police are searching for a man accused of killing his 3-month-old daughter.

Authorities say Adriana Hamilton was rushed to the hospital on Sept. 9. She died on Wednesday.

Neighbors say the child’s father, 44-year-old Charles Hamilton, came running out of the apartment asking them to call 911. He claimed his daughter wasn’t breathing well and told them he may have put a blanket around her too tightly.

Officers say an autopsy revealed the infant suffered broken ribs and bleeding on the brain.

Police say the child’s mother left her with Hamilton, while she went to wash clothes.

Police say Hamilton will face charges of murder, cruelty to children and aggravated battery. He hasn’t been seen since Sept. 12. His car was found Tuesday at the Atlanta airport.
