Glenwood Community Center Still Remains

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF)- A community meeting was called at the Orange Grove Center Saturday to discuss the confusion about the possibility of closing the Glenwood Community Center.

Neighbors around the Glenwood Community voiced their frustration and confusion after rumors were spread that the Glenwood Community center would be sold to Notre Dame High school and the possibility of moving Glenwood Community center to Orange Grove Center.

Community members say, “I don’t think this is a good move for our children, and for our center. Our children need to stay where they are they are happy there. Find something else to do with this center, but leave Glenwood Center alone”

The meeting not only gave city officials a chance to clarify these issues, but it also gave an opportunity for members of the community to have their voices heard.

Maura Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer for the city of Chattanooga says that the Glenwood Center is partnered with the Orange Grove center and was offered space if ever needed to place residents there.

City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod says this speculation that the center will be closing it’s door is untrue.

Maura Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer for the city of Chattanooga says it’s not in the budget proposal for the fiscal year 2020 to do any sale or construction of moving the Glenwood Community center.
