Governor asks Commissioner Beck to resign

ATLANTA (WDEF) – As Jim Beck goes to federal court, the Governor of Georgia asks him to resign.

Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner faces indictments on 38 counts of fraud.

He appeared today in federal court in shackles and cuffs.

Prosecutors accuse Beck of using at least $2 million from his schemes to bankroll his campaign for Insurance Commissioner last year.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Governor Kemp sent him a letter asking for his resignation.

“Your indictment severely undermines your ability to fulfill your official obligations to the people of Georgia.”
