NASHVILLE (WDEF) – Governor Bill Lee is issuing an executive order says he will sign an executive order requiring all Tennesseans stay home unless carrying out essential activities.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it’s looking at sites in Tennessee to convert to medical care facilities to ease the growing burden on hospitals facing an incoming wave of new coronavirus patients. The corps says a team from its Memphis district has been asked by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state officials to assess possible locations for alternate care facilities in West Tennessee. The Memphis district has completed reviews of sites including large arenas, a former shopping mall, and an existing medical facility. Meanwhile, the number of jobless Tennesseans continues to swell as more companies lay off workers.

UNDATED (AP) – Nursing homes across the country have been in lockdown for weeks under federal orders to protect their frail, elderly residents from coronavirus. But a wave of deadly outbreaks nearly every day since suggests the measures including a ban on visits and daily screenings of staffers either came too late or were not rigorous enough. Recent outbreaks in Tennessee, New Jersey, Ohio and Maryland have pushed nursing home deaths to at least 450 and highlight the biggest gap: Screenings of workers don’t involve testing but the taking of temperatures or asking health questions that still allow asymptomatic people to slip through.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Pop superstar Taylor Swift is helping out a Nashville record store closed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Grimey’s co-owner Doyle Davis says the store got a call last week from Swift’s publicist asking how Swift could help. It was the just after Nashville’s mayor issued a stay-at-home order, and Davis was sending all the employees home. Swift’s donation will provide direct relief to the store’s 10 full time employees and three months of the health care costs for the store’s group insurance plan. Davis says it gives him a sense of security knowing “my people are taken care of.”
