Grandmother charged for Walker County infant hyperthermia death

Kensington, GA (WDEF) – Walker County deputies arrest the grandmother accused of leaving her infant grandson in the car with the heat running for five hours.
47-year-old Barbara Michelle Pemberton of the Kensington community faces charges of second degree murder and cruelty to children in the second degree.
Preliminary autopsy findings show the 13-month old died from hyperthermia, officials say because of the running heat and incoming solar radiation, the temperature in the car reached well above 100F.
Sheriff Steve Wilson said Pemberton left the infant in his car set while she visited friends.
When she checked the boy five hours later, he was unresponsive.
Pemberton is being held on a $100,000 bond.
