Grocery store employee saves man after Heart Attack

PORTLAND, Tenn. (News Channel 5) – A Portland, Tennessee man has been called a hero after coming to the rescue at a Food Lion grocery store.

Friday, a customer collapsed after an apparent heart attack, and Michael Slayton, an employee for 12 years, sprang into action by administering CPR.

When paramedics arrived, they took over, and told Michael the victim probably would have died had he not been there.

For his part, Slayton said he’s no hero, he just wants to encourage others to learn the same CPR skills he did.

“Get it done, never stop your training,” Michael said. “Continue on, that way you can help a family member or someone you don’t know. You never know. If you have it, you can use it. If you don’t, you won’t.”
