Group fixes broken tail lights for free
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A local organization takes an interesting approach to helping the public by fixing vehicle tail lights for free.
This afternoon members from the Chattanooga Democratic Socialists of America were on the corner of 23rd Street and Hickory Street.
They were repairing brake lights for folks and other vehicle maintenance tasks that people needed.
Today the group fixed at least 14 brake lights – a helping hand that could prevent issues for folks later on.
“Most folks know having an out tail light is on of the reasons you might get stopped by law enforcement. And whether you’re poor and tickets can just be financially ruinous, or if you’re a person of color, or an undocumented immigrant, it might be a perilous encounter for you. So we just think it’s best if folks just don’t ever have to have that problem in the first place. It’s just a simple way to show solidarity with the working class with the people of this community show that we’re out here on their side,” co-organizer James Baker said.
Before the event, the Chattanooga DSA raised over $700 to help foot the bill for the repairs.
