Hamilton Co. Commissioner wants two separate votes on tax increase

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Commissioner Tim Boyd is proposing the commission hold two separate votes on any property tax increase in the future.

Boyd has opposed the commission’s recent millage rate change that resulted in a 25-million dollars tax increase for some county residents.

The change followed the recent re-appraisal of property in the county.

The 25-million dollar increase will be leveraged to produce 100-million dollars for school construction and other county projects.

Commissioner Warren Mackey pointed-out that individual commissioners do hold community meetings to discuss things like the current tax increase.

The commission will vote on the resolution next week.
