Hamilton Co. May Return to Using Independent Bus Drivers

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton County may return to using independent school bus drivers following the fatal Woodmore bus crash last month.

School board members gathered for a called meeting to discuss their transportation options.

Currently, the school system contracts with Durham School Services to cover most of the routes.

That contract expires in June.

Administration warned board members it’s too late in the school year to find another private bus firm for next year.

So the contract with Durham could be extended while the board decides which road to take.

Board members also learned Durham has made several safety upgrades since the crash, including the addition of bus monitors on some routes.
