Hamilton County Elected Officials Sworn In

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – New Hamilton County officials are now in their elected roles.
The inaugural ceremony took place Thursday morning at the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Four of those new officials are a part of the Hamilton County School Board.

One of the new faces added to the board this year is Tiffanie Robinson who represents District 4.

“I fully believe Hamilton County schools have a lot of opportunities ahead of them.”

Robinson, a mother of two herself, said she wants all children to be able to succeed.

“A zip code should not define the education they’re getting. In district 4 we have a number of families who are living in poverty or lower income, and yet our schools are not providing the opportunities that the children need in order to live a successful adult life. ”

She said she’s got a plan to change that.

“Really doing a concentrated effort and working with our schools to get more parents engaged through a number of programs. I’m hoping as a new school board member, I can get us to focus on creating a new budgeting process, like student based budgeting.”

Rhonda Thurman who is no stranger to the school board, said the entire board has a busy year ahead of them.

“New school board members will have to hit the ground running. Our first order of business is picking a new school superintendent. We interview search firms on September 13th. That will be our first order of business.”
