Hamilton County has your 9PM wake up call
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 375 thefts from vehicles in the past year.
That’s an unusually high number.
Many of those thefts happened in the Ooltewah, Apison, and East Brainerd Road areas.
And after investigating… the sheriff’s office determined that many of the break-ins happened because the vehicles were simply left “unlocked.”
That means the crimes could have been prevented with a little extra caution.
The department is now joining with other law enforcement agencies throughout the United States to promote #9PMRoutine.
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Matt Lea told us “it’s really important, people are busy these days, they have all kinds of things that can take their attention, they’ve got kids, they’ve got jobs, they’ve got groceries, next thing you know, you walk in, you think your car is locked, and it’s not.”
“And the next morning you wake up and someone’s broken in your car. So what we’re trying to do is think of creative ways to help give people a little friendly reminder that you need to lock your doors, especially your vehicles.
Spokesman Matt Lea says the #9PMRoutine is designed to help local citizens remember the little things, like locking up your vehicles and personal possessions every night.
