Hamilton County identifies Hurricane Creek fire victim

EAST BRAINERD (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is identifying the body found after a fire at a Hurricane Creek home last week.

The victim was 37 year old Christopher Keith Smith of Ooltewah.

Firefighters spotted the body while still battling the blaze, but it was not confirmed until after the fire was put out.

The case remains under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office also reports citations against a driver outside the fire.

They say she drove over a hose and damaging it.

Tina White has been cited with crossing a fire hose and reckless endangerment.

The second, more serious charge comes because Tri-Community Volunteer firefighters were inside the burning structure when it happened.

The hose did not have water in it at the time, but it had to be replaced before the hydrant could be used, delaying firefighters.

Tri-Community officials say the 4-inch hose will have to be replaced.
