Hamilton County Jail Incident given All Clear
Hamilton County, Tenn. (WDEF) – The “All Clear” has been given and all additional personnel, including tactical and K-9 officers have cleared the building after a lock down at the Hamilton County Jail earlier Wednesday afternoon.
Tactical and K-9 officers were called in to assist corrections personnel as a precautionary measure after Jail officials reported as many as 20 inmates causing a disturbance that prompted a SWAT team response.
Sheriff Jim Hammond said the incident began last night when inmates from two cell blocks started ignoring jail policies and rules.
Hammond tells News 12 that inmates then began throwing items at jailers.
HCSO Chief Deputy Allen Branum said he was “very proud of the response provided by members of the HCSO and the effective and expedient manner in which they took control of the situation, protected the safety of the inmates, and turned what could have been a potentially serious situation into a manageable and proportionate response.”
The entire operation was completed within approximately one hour.
No injuries have been reported.
