Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office pushing boating safety

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is pushing boating safety as it heats up.

This is National Safe Boating Week, which was created to educate out community about the dangers associated with boating.

Authorities want to remind our community of practicing water safety.

According to the US Coast Guard Tennessee was ranked 10th in the Nation for boating accidents.

Nationally, drowning was reported as the cause of death in 80% of all boarubg fatalities.

With all these amazing waterways right at our doorstep, the HCSO Marine Patrol Division, in partnership with the Hamilton County Park Rangers Division and Erlanger Trauma Services, wanted to make sure people are safe by participating with this initiative.

Sheriff Jim Hammond says, “We are getting into the summer months we’re going to have a lot more accidents we will have a lot more books who are injured and boating accidents because of speed and other issues out there so there’s a lot of fun coming up for folks but there has to be a lot of caution.”
