Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office warns of scams

Investigators say the scammers are obtaining real names of deputies, and using them to con people by phone, email and even door-to-door.

Deputies say the scam can be about fines for not showing up for jury duty, or winning a lottery or vacation.

The Sheriff’s Office says to never give information over the phone or send money.

Also, they never ask for money over the phone.

Hamilton County Chief Deputy Allen Branum says that, “bottom line, if you’ve got to go to a store; a Walmart; a Walgreen’s or wherever and get a Green Dot card or some kind of a card to put money on, it’s a scam. If you send money in, it’s a scam.”

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office say the most effective way to stop thieves is through prevention.
