Hamilton County teachers pitch Teacherpreneur ideas

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Twenty-two Hamilton County teachers get in touch with their entrepreneurial side.

Sunday was the Teacherpreneur Incubator pitch night.

After an intense 48-hour launch, these educators introduced their own ideas to a crowd and pitched it to a set of judges.

A crowd favorite and co-runners up were chosen.

And the winner of the competition went to Mary Manning and Drew Akins. Their idea was a Drone Racing League. They win $1,500.

The Public Education Foundation in Chattanooga puts the event on as well as many sponsors.

“Teachers have the souls of entrepreneurs. They’re people who do big things with limited resources all the time and they’re the professionals. They’re the ones that spend everyday with our students. They know what our communities need. They know the challenges and opportunities that exist. They’re the perfect people to pitch these ideas,” says Geoff Millener, Innovations and Technology programs manager.

This was the fourth time the event has been held.
