New backpacks for Hardy Elementary School students

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Six-thousand area Elementary School students got some brand new backpacks stocked with school supplies on Tuesday.

It was Delivery Day at Hardy Elementary and the other 10 schools that received the new backpacks and supplies thanks to Front Porch Alliance and Rock Point Church.

This is the 15th year organizations have helped make the school year a bit brighter for area kids.

Volunteers were there Tuesday morning to share the backpacks and goodies to some of Chattanooga’s most under-resourced schools.

Rick Hall works as the Assistant Principal at Hardy Elementary. He said, “Everyone loves a brand new backpack at the beginning of the school year and everyone loves having the supplies.”

Powell Grisham is the Lead Pastor at Rock Point Church of Christ. Grisham said, “We just feel like if we can partner with them, and help them go further faster, then we can really help our community as a whole here in Chattanooga and where we all live.”

This is the third year Hardy Elementary has received the brand new backpacks.

Here is the Front Porch Alliance’s mission statement: Front Porch Alliance is the premier connector in the Chattanooga area connecting stakeholders for the revitalization of inner-city neighborhoods. We work with local churches, community organizations, and government leaders to serve our community through a variety of projects.
