Harris English Ready to Defend PGA Win at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The challenge of defending his first PGA Tour title brings a certain level of pressure for Harris English. It’s a good thing he has a lot of friends in town considering the competition at the St. Jude Classic. English played high school golf at the Baylor School in Chattanooga.
As the final tuneup for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, this tournament has what might be its strongest field since leaving Colonial Country Club after 1988 for the TPC Southwind course.
Three-time winner Patrick Reed is just one of 13 here to win a title in recent months. Matt Kuchar withdrew Tuesday, but Phil Mickelson is among seven ranked in the world’s top 30 honing their games.
English said Wednesday it’s amazing to see how many really good players are here this week and he wants to play the best.
