Hit and Run injures 2 year old on Wilson Avenue in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Cleveland Police are looking for the driver involved in a hit and run that hurt a toddler.
Candice Domingo Pablo went to check in on her neighbors, who are family members of a two-year-old who was injured after being hit by a truck.
“I can’t believe that they took off. I couldn’t imagine just hitting a child and leaving a child there,” Domingo Pablo said.
She feels for them.
“I just got off work and they were telling me what happened and it is, I just can’t imagine. If that happened to me, I don’t know what I would do,” Domingo Pablo said.
Cleveland Police say shortly after 12 p.m. the boy was hit by a blue truck on Wilson Avenue. The child was alert when first responders arrived. The toddler was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
“There was some redness to the torso area. Of course we didn’t know at the time of any internal injuries, so they will be doing any kind of tests, scans, that kind of stuff to see if there were any internal injuries,” said Sergeant Evie West, with the Cleveland Police Department.
Police say drivers should use extra caution when going through neighborhoods with children.
“If you see a child standing by the road, it is always best to stop completely and look for an adult. So that they can get a child or you know help them safely cross the street/ And then anytime that you know that you’ve hurt someone or hit someone, you must stop. Because it is a crime to leave the scene of an accident,” Sergeant West said.
Domingo Pablo hopes the suspect is caught.
“If you know anybody that has a blue four door truck and if you hear anything about it, please come forward,” she said.
If you have any information, you are asked to call Cleveland Police.
