Holidays Tough for Some with Addiction

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — This time of year can be tough for people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction.

The holidays can bring a lot of temptation to those trying to overcome those diseases – especially with parties with drinking.

Brian Sullivan with Addiction Campuses says it’s not good to be alone, and to find sober events that are happening.

Sullivan advises someone in recovery to know themselves, their surroundings, and triggers.

“If you don’t feel it’s right that you go to a certain area, if you don’t feel that you’re strong enough, far along enough in your recovery at that moment, maybe you have some other things that are going on that are compounding the issues of your substance misuse disorder, then maybe make that determination as to whether or not you should even go,” he said.

Sullivan says to put yourself first for your mental health, and don’t be afraid to reach out if you need help.
