Humane Educational Society celebrates National Adoption Weekend

Animal shelter offering free cat adoptions, half-price on dog adoptions

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — For those looking to add a furry friend to the family for a family-friendly price, Chattanooga’s Humane Educational Society has quite the offer from Friday, September 16, to Sunday, September 18.

The local shelter is partnering with the Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society during National Adoption Weekend to give plenty of animals a new home.

From Friday to Sunday, cats can be adopted for free, while dogs are half off.

“Rescue animals are the best,” said Jeanine Cloyd, the shelter’s Community Outreach & Education Manager. “They bring such joy to your life and you rescue an animal, you make room for other animals to be rescued, too. So I hope that people will come out and choose us.”

The Humane Society says shelters “have seen an influx in animal intakes” so far this year.

They describe it as a “growing shelter crisis” throughout the nation.
