Hutcheson’s First 2015 Baby

Fort Oglethorpe, GA (WDEF) We found the first baby of 2015 in the North Georgia area, born at Hutcheson Medical Center.

It’s a lot to celebrate for the family and the hospital, since they just got back to delivering babies again last month.

WDEF News 12’s Caitlyn Jones shows us more.

Some people ring in the new year with a bang; Andrew and Malori rang it in with a baby.

Mom Malori says, "Watching the ball drop kind of took my mind off of it."

Hutcheson’s Women’s Center Dr. Matthew Roberts says he told Malori to wait just a minute to push, so they could get that 12:01 birth time.

Dr. Roberts says, "She was almost ready, and we decided to watch the ball drop on tv, and as soon as the ball dropped down she started pushing and had the baby."

Little Andrew Bankston Jr. or AJ is the first Chattanooga area baby born in 2015.

Dr. Roberts says, "I think daddy’s excited because it’s his first boy."

Father Andrew Bankston says, "I got three daughters, and he’s my first little man."

But the proud father says they didn’t celebrate the new year with the traditional champagne.

Mr. Bankston says, "Cause every time we get to drinking, we have children."

Hutcheson Medical Center re-opened their Labor and Delivery services two weeks ago.

So they’re proud to have brought in the first baby of the year.

Big sister Maleah is proud too.

Mom says, "She’s been a big help. She’s a good big sissy huh?"

And the family is no stranger to holiday birthdays.

Maleah was born on Halloween.

Maleah says, "I’m excited."

Six pounds and 10 ounces of a bundle of New Year joy.

Mom says, "Just blessed that we could bring him into this world."
