Middle Valley students flee bus fire on Knoxville freeway

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Some Hamilton County students had to flee their bus this afternoon during rush hour on I 40 in Knoxville.

The 5th graders from Middle Valley Elementary were returning to Chattanooga from a field trip to WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge.

Knoxville Police say a small engine fire forced the driver to pull over to the side of the interstate at James White Parkway.

They report the students all exited the bus in good order and no one was hurt.

The school system had to send up replacement buses to pick them up.
