Independent Report on Ooltewah High School Basketball Team Finds Culture of Bullying & Hazing

Chattanooga (WDEF)  The Hamilton County Department of Education plans to publicly release a report concerning the incident involving the Ooltewah High School basketball team last school year.

A private law firm conducted the external investigation. The report states a culture of bullying and hazing existed within the basketball team prior to the sexual assault in Gatlinburg.

Players say they were regularly punched in the back by upperclassmen in the locker room.

Attorney Courtney Bullard’s report also finds the school’s former principal and athletic director “failed to take appropriate measures” after learning of the assault, by allowing the team to continue playing in a tournament.

Bullard also found parents of team members were not contacted about the incident.
