Instacart joins grocery delivery services in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Residents in Chattanooga now have a new way to tackle what is on many people’s to-do list.

Instacart launched on Thursday and will cover over 125,000 residents in Chattanooga, Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy, Lakesite, Ooltewah, East Brainerd, Tyner, Middle Valley, Falling Water, Metro Park, Alpine Heights, East Ridge, Signal Mountain, Lone Oak, Fairmount, Walden, Harrison, Ridgeside and Summer Haven.

Instacart takes whatever is in your online grocery shopping cart and delivers it to your door step in a certain time frame, like in an hour.

You start by ordering online.

“Your list is sent then to one of our personal shoppers who comes in the store shops and delivers their order to them,” Instacart Area Manager Jennifer O’Shaughnessy said.

Through the one-day delivery service can shop and get items delivered to you from stores that includes Publix, Costco, Whole Foods Market, and PetCo.

“We expanded here because we saw customers going to our site from these zip codes here in Chattanooga requesting our services.  So we finally had enough requests to warrant opening up shop here in the city,” O’Shaughnessy said.

Delivery starts at $5.99.

You can access Instacart online through your computer or through their app on your smart phone.

“Super cool,” one local shopper said about the service.

Instacart is one of a few grocery delivery services in the Scenic City.

Chattanooga Grocery Girl started nearly four years ago.

Customers call a number and for a fee the grocery girl will pick up what you want from where ever you want it.

Shipt, a Birmingham, Alabama based company similar to Instacart, unleashed their online delivery services in Chattanooga in 2015.

Shipt spokesperson Julie Coop said it’s been a success in Chattanooga and said in general people want services that can cater to their busy lifestyle.

“If they can find a way to get their groceries quickly and conveniently delivered they’re going to do it.  Especially if they’re going to get a great quality experience which is what we guarantee at Shipt,” Coop said.

As part of the launch, Instacart is giving customers a free year subscription of Instacart Express.

The freebie lasts until August 2nd.

Coop said Shipt is also offering a deal, sign-up and get two weeks for free and get $25 off your first order.
