Insure Tennessee Returns in State Senate

Nashville, TN (WDEF) – When a Tennessee Senate committee voted down the Governor’s Insurance for the Needy plan, it quickly ended a special session devoted to the bill earlier in February.

But now Insure Tennessee is back.

On Wednesday night, the Senate Health and Wealth Committee easily passed a resolution that would allow Governor Haslam to roll out Insure Tennessee.

The bill is co-sponsored by Republicans Doug Overbey and Richard Briggs and Democrat Jeff Yarbro.

So what are it’s chances now?

Still not very good.

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey told the Times Free Press earlier this week that he didn’t see it getting much further.

It has to go through him to make it to a full Senate vote.

And Democrats accuse Ramsey of orchestrating the first committee vote that shot it down.

But the next stop for the resolution is the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee.
