Irma Evacuees Complain of Cleveland Hotel Price Gouging
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) — The city of Cleveland’s mayor’s office is investigating a complaint from Irma evacuees of hotel price gouging.
The mayor’s office says a Florida family reported a high rate at the La Quinta Inn.
In a statement, Mayor Tom Rowland says he reached out to state officials, and was told the governor had not issued a proclamation concerning price gouging, and it would be very difficult to enforce.
He says he believed the hotel comped the family, and said it was a misunderstanding.
Officials with the Mayor’s office say La Quinta Inn is now giving people from Florida their cheap rate.
