IRONMAN, road closures upcoming
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The IRONMAN 70.3 competition begins Wednesday and lasts through Monday. This will cause some road closures, as will other Chattanooga events.
Chattanooga’s Department of Transportation stated that portions of Riverfront Parkway will be closed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17 through 9 a.m. on Monday, May 22. This will be between Molly Lane and E Aquarium Way for the setup and breakdown of the IRONMAN.
“Local traffic only will be permitted past W Martin Luther King Blvd on Riverfront Parkway northbound,” CDOT added. Tractor-trailers are restricted, except for deliveries. They will post detours.
The IRONMAN race will take place Sunday, May 21. Swimming will happen between 4 and 9 a.m. Running and biking segments will happen between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m.
CDOT said they will release a detailed traffic plan on Tuesday.
Other upcoming road closures include the Basilica Street Festival, the Ridgedale Block Party and the Chattanooga Market.
A portion of E 8th Street, between Georgia Avenue and Lindsay Street, will be closed on Saturday, May 20, from 1 p.m. until midnight. This will be during the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul Street Festival.
The Ridgedale Community Block Party will happen Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. During this time, S Watkins Street, between Vance Avenue and E 12th Street, will be closed.
Parts of Reggie White Boulevard will be closed on Sunday, May 21, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. This is between W 20th Street and Skate Park Parking Access, for the Chattanooga Market.
