Johnson & Johnson vaccine could hit Tennessee next week

NASHVILLE (WDEF) – The new Johnson and Johnson Covid vaccine could be in Tennessee as soon as next week.

On Friday, an FDA panel of experts recommended allowing the vaccine and the FDA should quickly make it official.

On Friday, Tennessee’s Health Commissioner says she expects to receive our first doses as early as Monday.

Dr. Lisa Piercey said Tennessee should get 40,000 doses next week.

Health officials have called the Johnson and Johnson vaccine a game-chaser.

It does not require super-refrigeration, which has led to the spoilage problems we’ve been hearing about in various locations.

Also the new vaccine only requires one shot, not two.

It is less effective against getting Covid-19 than its competitors, but is better at preventing serious cases.

And patients should get complete protection after 28 days.

Side effects are similar to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, temporary fever, fatigue and headache.
