Lady Mocs Tip New Season Friday Facing a Daunting Schedule

WDEF-(WDEF) The Lady Mocs tip off their new season tomorrow, which may include the most daunting schedule in school history.

And UTC will have to navigate the grind with a roster that features only three seniors.
To bring out the best in the Lady Mocs this season, head coach Jim Foster wants his team to play the best.
So UTC’s non-conference schedule includes Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Stanford.
Said Foster,"Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Stanford won the SEC, the ACC, and the Pac 12 last year. But if you are fortunate to play in the NCAA Tournament, you’re going to play teams like that. So why not get used to playing them."
Said senior forward Destiny Bramblett,"Right now, all we hear is we’ve got the hardest schedule like as a mid-major team, but it will prepare us for March."
And the opener against Villanova will not be easy either.
Said Foster,"Connecticut and Notre Dame get out the league (Big East) with them where they had to play them. Now they won’t schedule them."
Senior Destiny Bramblett missed all of last year after having surgery on her right ankle.
Then she broke her left ankle in the summer.
Reporter-"Do you feel healthy? Do you feel good?"
"I do feel good. Some days are better than others. I mean that’s just because of old age you know."
Said Foster,"Sometimes she runs like an old player.(laughter) I’ve told Destiny I won’t be around when you’re 70, but I know what you are going to move like. (laughter) Her biggest challenge is to go from a player who played part time to a player with the expectations for her to be out there longer. Very rarely is a player in that fifth year get an opportunity to step up and be something else. She has got that opportunity."
UTC and Villanova tip around 7:30pm Friday. It’s part of a double-header at McKenzie Arena.
The UTC men will play Hiwassee at 5:30pm.
