Last Kmart in Chattanooga-area (in Tennessee) ready to close

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Kmart parent company Sears Holdings announced Monday 64 more Kmart stores will close across the country.

This includes the last Kmart in the Chattanooga area.

Several news reports said the affected Kmart employees were notified of the closing this past Friday.

Business Insider reports closing stores’ liquidation will begin September 22nd, with the stores closing by mid-December.

In addition to the Hixson store on Highway 153, store employees report stores in Memphis, Nashville, Oak Ridge, Clarksville, and Smyrna.

Some Kmart stores will remain in the Volunteer state, however. See the full list of remaining Kmart stores here.

Several Kmart stores also remain in North Georgia including the stores in Fort Oglethorpe, Dalton and Calhoun.
