Leaders break ground on MLK Blvd extension to the river

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Development in downtown Chattanooga along the Tennessee River has exploded in the last two years, and today leaders are taking steps to open even more areas for homes and businesses.

City and county leaders helped launch the extension of West M.L. King Boulevard near Blue Goose Hollow.

That intersection will be improved, and the road will continue down to the river.

The $3.5 million dollar project is being led by Highland Building Group and Evergreen Real Estate.

Developer Aaron White says “There’s actually a road, sidewalks both sides, a twelve foot wide bike path, pretty extensive landscaping, that’s all part of it, signalization at the road, crosswalks, site lighting, all included.”

That work is designed to complete the connections between Chattanooga’s downtown core and the Tennessee River.

Fulton Road from Riverfront Parkway to Canal Street will also be completed as part of this project.
