Local election candidates encourage early voting

Early voting open through July 30 in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — District 8’s Malarie Marsh and District 11’s Joe Graham were outside the Hamilton County Election Commission at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

They were glad to see residents voting early for the upcoming August elections and encourage others to take advantage of the opportunity to do so.

They both also expressed the importance of local elections.

“It’s important to get out and vote early because it gives you more opportunities to get to the polls, but local elections matter,” Graham said. “This is really, truly, where things get done. It matters who represents you. And this is a new district, so it’s extremely important that we get representation in this district.”

“On the top of my sign there, it says, ‘Your community, your voice,'” Marsh said. “I go with the theory of you’ve got to vote for the candidate that you want to be the voice for the community, right? July the 15th through the 30th is early voting. August 4th is election day, so you’ve got to get out and vote for the candidate that you want to be your voice.”

Graham knows there will be some who choose not to vote, but hopes those residents will change their minds before Election Day.

To him, the old saying still rings true — your vote matters.

“The people that are running this county, running our cities, running our states, they’re the ones that are taking your tax dollars and spending your tax dollars,” Graham said. “We’re running the schools, we’re running the jails, we’re running the courthouse. I mean, it’s very important how these things operate to benefit you. So it’s extremely important who represents you. So it’s even more important to get out and vote for those people.”
