Local Methodist pastor fired over same sex wedding

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A Tennessee Valley pastor was fired last week after officiating a same-sex marriage ceremony.

Anna Golladay lost her associate pastor role at both St. Mark’s and St. Elmo United Methodist churches.

The UMC district office for the Chattanooga area rescinded her license to preach in the Methodist church after she married two women last fall.

The Methodist Church is governed by a Book of Discipline, where same-sex marriage is forbidden.

Anna Golladay says “I understand the conflicts that people have with Biblical teaching and the teachings they follow. I also follow a New Testament Jesus who loved all and walked alongside all in spite of who they are and who they loved. And I believe that today, Jesus would be doing the very same thing.”

The United Methodist Church is meeting next February to discuss and possibly change its stance on same-sex marriage.
