Locals say Stacey Dash is Wrong, we Need Black History Month
During the interview, she addresses segregation in America by saying, "We have to make up our minds. Either we wanna have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET awards."
Dash went on to make national headlines when she said, "Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month, you know, we’re Americans period. That’s it."
Of course fellow celebrities wasted no time commenting on what they thought of Dash’s controversial thoughts. During a separate interview, award-winning movie star Gabrielle Union said, "The more that we focus on inclusion, and a true representation of this country, um, I think that ‘crazy lady’ will have less to say."
And a few locals in Chattanooga weren’t holding back on their opinions either, "She young, and she don’t understand history," said Hamilton County school board member, George Ricks, Sr., "She’s misrepresenting the whole story about African American history."
"My youngest son is actually adopted from Ethiopia," said local resident, Kelley Woodord, "And I think it’s very important for (him) to know that Africans played a very important role in the forming of this country."
Other heritage months include National American Indian Month, in November, Jewish American Month in May, and National Hispanic Latino Month in September. The United States and Canada both celebrate Black History Month in February, but the United Kingdom recognizes the historic month in October.
